Homemade Ketchup
Here’s my recipe that is rich, tangy, slightly sweet, and easy to make with simple pantry ingredients.
Ingredients:
• 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
• 1/2 cup water
• 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
• 1/4 cup honey (or brown sugar)
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp onion powder
• 1/2 tsp garlic powder
• 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
• 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions:
1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, whisk together the tomato paste and water until smooth.
2. Add the apple cider vinegar, honey (or brown sugar), salt, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
3. Stir well and let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
4. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more vinegar for tang, more honey for sweetness, or more spices for depth to your liking.
5. Remove from heat and let cool. Transfer to a jar or airtight container. (You may blend if you want a smoother consistency)
6. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
Enjoy with fries, burgers, or anything that needs a classic ketchup touch!
